Overview

The Director of Accounting position is responsible for higher level accounting issues, reviewing of shared services work, communicating with the field and upper management, financial reporting and SOX for one of the operating companies within the shared services entity (MGS) of a publicly traded holding company. This position reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer. Key focus areas include:

  • Ownership for the integrity, accuracy, and informational quality of overall accounting functions and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley/GAAP.
  • Areas of coverage include P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows and all other regulatory requirements of the legal entities.
  • Fiscal period close processes, financial reporting, financial systems maintenance, internal controls and regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Position will also support budgeting/forecasting and variance analyses.
  • Assist the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) in other areas as it relates to IMTT (OpCo) Finance & Accounting department

Responsibilities

  • Technical accounting such as business acquisitions, revenue recognition, lease accounting and others as needed
  • Responsible for closing of monthly financial records
  • Review monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages to the terminals
  • Review monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages to the New York
  • Prepare & review monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages to the IMTT upper management
  • Prepare rolling 12 month forecast and assist in preparation of annual budget
  • Assist in being the focal point for Independent Auditors overseeing and ensuring the completion of the quarterly reviews and annual audit related to IMTT New Orleans and IMTT field operations
  • Work with the Director of Revenue in New Orleans and MGS Director of Accounting in Plano and backup as necessary
  • Assisting in appraising performance of employees within the shared services entity
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Serve as the main contact for the NTL management agreement
  • Provide leadership/management at the direction of the CAO for a variety of ad hoc initiatives, including but not limited to financial systems improvements (e.g., Great Plains), process enhancements, accounting structures for new business models and relationships, reconciliation diagnostics, and the like

 

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong analytical abilities and results orientation.
  • Strong systems experience, Great Plains and/or SAP preferred
  • Proficient in active communication and solid interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, project/task management experience and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), with demonstrated expertise in complex Excel-based financial modeling.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPA
  • 5+ years’ experience in Public Accounting
  • Experience in Sarbanes-Oxley/GAAP compliance
  • Experience in complex, multi-variable business
  • Experience managing all areas of P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow accounting

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in budgeting/forecasting/variance analysis
  • Experience with shared services structures preferred

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position.  Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.  This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.

 

 

TRAVEL

Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.
